How to mine Blocknet

· 4 min read

This guide takes you from downloading seine to your first accepted shares and payouts on the bntpool.com pool, on Windows, macOS or Linux. New to mining? How crypto mining works explains blocks, difficulty and pools first.

How do you mine Blocknet?

Short answer

Get a Blocknet address or a Blocknet ID shortname, download seine for your system, run it, and paste your address when asked. Accept the default pool, bntpool.com, and you are mining. Seine starts hashing right away and keeps tuning thread count and CPU kernel while it runs.

What do you need before you start?

Step 1: download seine

Get the archive for your system from the download section. There is nothing to install: unzip it and you’re ready.

System Archive Graphics cards
Windows (x86_64) seine-windows-x86_64.zip NVIDIA; the CUDA runtime is included
Linux (x86_64) seine-linux-x86_64.tar.gz NVIDIA, with the driver installed
Linux (ARM64) seine-linux-aarch64.tar.gz CPU (glibc 2.39 or newer)
macOS (Apple Silicon) seine-macos-aarch64.tar.gz CPU
macOS (Intel) seine-macos-x86_64.tar.gz CPU

Each release also publishes a SHA256SUMS.txt file, so you can check that your download matches the release.

Step 2: run it

On Windows, double-click seine.exe. On macOS or Linux, open a terminal in the unzipped folder and run:

./seine

Step 3: enter your address and start mining

Seine asks for your payout address or @shortname, then for a pool. Press Enter to accept the default, stratum+tcp://bntpool.com:3333. Within moments the dashboard shows your hashrate and your first shares.

From here seine keeps tuning while it mines. It compares thread counts and CPU kernels on real mining work, switches only after a confirmed gain, backs off if memory gets tight, and remembers what worked for the next start. It never reconnects to the pool to do this, so tuning costs you no mining time.

How long until you get paid?

The bntpool.com pool uses PPLNS: each block’s reward is shared among the shares submitted in the six hours before it was found. A reward can’t be spent until its block is 60 blocks deep, which is about five hours at Blocknet’s five-minute block time. Once your confirmed balance reaches 0.1 BNT, the pool sends it to your address.

You can follow your hashrate, shares and balance on bntpool.com by looking up your address. The pool shows rewards from blocks that haven’t confirmed yet separately, because those can still change.

How fast will your computer mine?

Hashrate depends mostly on memory bandwidth and the number of threads your RAM allows. These are the best results measured with seine for each generation:

Hardware Threads Hashrate
AMD EPYC · Zen 5 (EPYC 9R45) 32 49.4 H/s
AMD EPYC · Zen 4 (EPYC 9R14) 24 35.7 H/s
Apple M4 Max (48 GB MacBook Pro) 16 30.9 H/s
Arm server (AWS Graviton4) 16 21.5 H/s
Intel Xeon (Sapphire Rapids 8488C) 12 13.1 H/s

Results for every CPU tested are on the performance page, and the Blocknet mining hardware guide explains how RAM and memory bandwidth set these numbers.

How does seine get more from the same CPU?

Seine ships several Argon2id kernels for each processor family and measures them on your machine while it mines. On the hardware we tested, the right kernel made a large difference:

You don’t have to choose any of this. Seine switches kernels only after a confirmed gain and remembers the result for the next start.

How can you get more hashrate?

Can you mine Blocknet solo?

Yes. If you run your own synced Blocknet node, start seine with ./seine --mode daemon and it mines directly against the node instead of a pool. You keep every block you find, but payouts arrive only when you find a whole block, so most people start on a pool. The solo mining guide explains the setup.

Note

Blocknet plans a network upgrade called Faraday around 2027-02-16, according to blocknetcrypto.com. It is planned to change the proof of work, so keep seine up to date: it checks for new releases when it starts and every 12 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How much RAM do I need to mine Blocknet?

Each mining thread needs about 2 GB of RAM, because every Argon2id hash works through a 2 GiB block of memory. A machine with 16 GB can therefore run roughly six to seven threads after leaving room for the system. Seine measures your memory and picks a safe thread count automatically.

When do Blocknet mining payouts arrive on bntpool.com?

The bntpool.com pool pays with PPLNS over a six-hour window. A block's reward can only be paid after it is 60 blocks deep, about five hours at five-minute blocks, and balances are sent once they reach 0.1 BNT. Expect the first payment several hours after your first accepted shares.

Can I mine Blocknet with my CPU and GPU at the same time?

Yes. On Windows and Linux, seine mines on every CPU core and every NVIDIA graphics card in the machine at once, and the two hashrates add up. It tunes the processor and each card separately while it runs, so you get the most from all of your hardware without changing a setting.
